Angela Ballhorn, Jazz’n’More, über Janto’s Oktaeder
An octahedron is a regular polyhedron with eight equilateral triangles, this balanced form as band name instead of "octet" says a lot about the relationship of the eight-piece cast. All are equally important, changing between melody lines in the movement, background sounds or solo spots - so Janto's Oktaeder almost becomes the sounding body of a big band. Bandleader and pianist Jan-Andrea Bard has written ten impressive pieces for his Post-Harmonic Orchestra (with no less cryptic titles like "Sa Va Sa Ti"). The line-up has a good drive, is sophisticated in the sounds and very balanced between brass, reeds and rhythm section.
